Threshold tests

What is a threshold test?

A threshold test identifies your aerobic and anaerobic threshold. Aerobic threshold is the level at which you are most resilient and burn the most fat per hour of exercise. Anaerobic threshold is the highest intensity you can maintain over time without lactate concentration rising and eventually causing you to slow down.

Aerobic and anaerobic thresholds determine your personal training zones. This information is crucial for optimizing your training because it helps you find the right zones and thus the right training effect.

Your thresholds also help you find the right pace to last the entire duration of your races.

Frequently Asked Questions

A threshold test measures your anaerobic threshold – the intensity at which your body begins to produce more lactate than it can handle. This point is crucial for endurance performance and helps you optimize your training by finding the right intensity zones.
The test gives you precise, individual training zones, helps you avoid overtraining, streamlines your training, and provides an objective measurement of your progress over time. This is valuable for both exercisers and elite athletes.
You perform a gradually increasing load on a bike, treadmill or skis depending on the test type you have chosen. During the test, we take regular blood samples from your finger for lactate analysis and record your heart rate. The entire procedure takes approximately 45-60 minutes.
Come rested, avoid strenuous exercise 24-48 hours before, eat a normal meal 2-3 hours before the test, be well hydrated and avoid alcohol the day before. Bring workout clothes and your own shoes/pedals if you prefer.
For best results, we recommend testing every 3-6 months. This gives you the opportunity to adjust your training zones as you progress and adapt your training to the season.
Choose a test based on your main sport: cycling for cyclists, running for runners, skiing for skiers and triathlon for triathletes. For a complete fitness profile, we recommend our combined threshold and VO2max test.
The threshold test measures your endurance capacity at submaximal loads, while VO2max measures your maximal oxygen uptake. Both provide valuable information but about different aspects of your fitness.
We recommend that you do not exercise at all or do only very light exercise the day before the test. After the test, you can do a light recovery activity if you feel ready.
Absolutely. After the test, our test leader will review the results with you, explain your personal training zones, and provide recommendations tailored to your goals. You will also receive a written report.
Yes, our tests are suitable for both exercisers and elite athletes. If you have heart problems, high blood pressure or other health problems, you should consult a doctor before taking the test.
